NorthLight is Born
Summit Power and REC Group teamed up to create NorthLight Power, a highly experienced and technologically advanced solar PV development company.
Summit Experience
Founded twenty years ago, Summit's primary business has focused on developing power projects for prospective owners on a success fee basis. Summit’s past projects include high-efficiency natural gas-fired projects, wind power projects and coal gasification projects with carbon capture to reduce carbon dioxide emissions (including integrated gasification combined cycle, or IGCC, projects). Over 7,000 MW are currently in operation, with another 1,000 MW in development or construction.
Summit also works jointly with select companies to pursue the financing and commercial development of next-generation clean energy technologies, such as dispatchable (firm) wind power and ultra-clean underground coal gasification with carbon capture.
Through NorthLight, Summit brings its development expertise to utility-scale PV solar energy projects throughout the western and southwestern United Sates. Each Summit project is led by Summit principals and staffed by Summit’s deep bench of resources, including experienced full-time employees and specially retained expert consultants. Summit always tailors a team specific to the needs of the project, thereby providing the best expertise at the lowest cost.

REC Experience
Renewable Energy Corporation is the world’s leading vertically integrated player in the solar industry. Since its establishment in 1996, REC has been a pioneer in the production of wafer-based solar products on an industrial scale. REC has over 4,000 employees globally and is listed on the Oslo stock exchange. Annual revenues in 2009 were NOK 9.2 bn (approx. USD 1.5 bn).
REC’s businesses include production of polysilicon in the US (Moses Lake, Washington and Butte, Montana), wafer manufacturing in Norway and Singapore, and cells and modules in Scandinavia and Singapore. REC is also engaged in project development activities in selected market-segments, making REC a fully integrated solar company.
In 2010, REC opened a state-of-the-art, integrated manufacturing complex in Singapore with a capacity to produce approximately 600 MW of solar panels annually. The new facility highlights REC’s commitment to the solar industry, allowing it to provide high quality solar products at the lowest possible cost to end-users.
